The Unknown Zodiac Sign of Christopher Columbus

What sign did Christopher Columbus belong to? Why do we celebrate the holiday connected with him now? Find all the answers here!

We know for a fact that Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean in search of a shorter route to Asia in 1492. What’s not clear is when exactly he was born. Historians believe that Columbus’ birth date could be sometime between August and October 1451. As follows from this, Columbus could be a Leo, a Virgo, a Libra, or a Scorpio. And now, we question ourselves whether astrology can help to solve this puzzle.

What could be a better occasion to start this astrological journey than the oncoming celebration of Columbus Day? Let’s take a short trip back through history to find out more about this famous explorer.

A historical overview

Very little is known about the early life of Christopher Columbus. He was born in Genoa, Italy, to a middle-class family. Columbus’ father owned a cheese stand where young Christopher worked as a helper. When he was 10, Columbus went to the sea for the first time. This trip was followed by years of working on cargo ships. Later on, he married the daughter of a Portuguese nobleman, had two children, and after his wife’s death, took a Spanish mistress.

The need for a safer route to Asia made Columbus resolve to look for a way to the Indies across the Atlantics. He tried to win support for his brave endeavor from the king of Portugal, but couldn't succeed. At long last in 1492, his efforts were crowned with success thanks to Queen Isabella of Castile. Finally, on August 3, 1492, Columbus departed with three ships: the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria, and reached the present Bahamas on October 12, 1492. For the next several months, Columbus and his crew explored the islands. During this expedition, they shipwrecked the Santa Maria, caught syphilis, were kept prisoners, and then returned home on March 15, 1493. Up until 1503, Columbus undertook four more voyages between Spain and the Americas. Since then, exploration and colonization of the Americas began.

However, the last years of his life turned out to be less successful. Columbus’ decision to hang some of his crew members for disobedience brought upon him the accusation of tyranny. Columbus was removed from power and lost his riches. Moreover, until his death on May 20, 1506, Columbus never got to know that he hadn’t actually found the western route to Asia.

Columbus’ zodiac sign

So can the history of the famous explorer help us find out his zodiac sign? Could he be a just and level-headed Libra? It's hard to image a Libra to be accused of tyranny. His notorious misconduct towards the natives and the crew rule this option out. Could Columbus be a perfectionist Virgo? Historians describe Columbus as an intelligent man but not scholarly. We believe that if Columbus were a Virgo, he’d study more. And surely a critical thinker Virgo wouldn’t fail the mission.

Was Columbus a passionate and intense Scorpio? This seems closer to the truth; however, his sensitive nature doesn’t fit a Scorpio either.

Columbus’ determination and arrogance speak for themselves. His denial to take “no” for an answer, passionate nature, dramatic decision-making, and the power of charm means that he could only be a Leo. There are no historical records stating the date of Christopher Columbus’ birth, but we believe that astrology can narrow it down to one sign. We bet Columbus was a Leo! And what do you think?
